There are many reasons a person may choose to start viewing pornography and I will argue that one reason is NOT because the devil made them do it.
However, Satan does have a knack at taking God-given gifts and creating counterfeits out of them. The devil uses the gift of sex as a weapon of warfare to turn a man’s heart away from God.
Sex isn’t the core issue, it’s a tool. For Satan, sexual sin isn’t the goal, stealing a man’s heart away from God is.
Each time a man gives in to the devil’s influence, he hardens his heart against God.
This is a most dangerous predicament for the Christian man because Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” John 8:34
Being trapped in the bondage of sexual sin is just the beginning of the problem.
A man becomes a slave to his sexual appetite and as the “fix” is always harder to come by, he must use “harder” porn to meet the unrelenting demand. He must experience more “depraved” activity that is strong enough to get the fix. Every time he gives in to this wicked craving, he takes another step further away from God.
Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.” Matthew 6:24
For the Christian man caught in pornography, this is a battle for his loyalty.
The enemy of his soul will try to persuade him that sexual gratification is more precious than fellowship with his Creator. If a man buys that lie, he gives himself over to the power of evil forces that sir up his sin nature and soon that man will listen to the devil rather than the Holy Spirit.
If he continues on this path, his conscience will be seared and he’ll no longer be able to hear God at all…because he will despise Him.
Pornography is a counterfeit that Satan uses in the “life or death” conflict of Christian life.
It’s critical the Christian understands what is truly at stake.
The battle must be won!
