Pornography has the power to destroy a man’s character, integrity, career, marriage, family, body and soul.
Ralph was the first person to arrive at the office each morning. His co-workers thought he was a workaholic, as did his wife.
The guys at work assumed he was behind schedule on a major project. Ironically, that was the excuse he gave his wife every day last week for coming home so late.
Advancing his career wasn’t on his mind at all. Ralph had a more compelling reason to show up early and stay late, but nobody else knew it.
Ralph had discovered there were no Internet filters on the computers at work. The company was so laid back, it didn’t even ask about the extra high phone bill his company cell phone had incurred last month.
And it wasn’t difficult to lie about alleged meetings with potential clients. Being gone a couple extra hours mid-day didn’t seem to cause any suspicions.
What first seemed so risky and adventurous had become ordinary and Ralph convinced himself that he had been nervous for no good reason.
He couldn’t believe how fortunate he was to work with people who took so little interest in his activities. He was surprised how easy it was to deceive his wife.
He didn’t recognize his negligence. Unbeknownst to Ralph, his recklessness was affecting his job and family. It wasn’t long before he lost both.
In reality, he should have been more cautious. He hadn’t expected the impending doom. He was blind to his own depravity and his increased indulgence in sexual sin had made him all the more brazen.
What started as an accidental view of an Internet porn site, quickly became a preoccupation that overruled all common sense and decency. In less than a month, Ralph went from being an innocent victim of advertising, to being a willing participant in evil.
He was no longer content with observing illicit sexual behavior. He pursued ways to become a partaker. How did Ralph fall so fast?
What makes pornography so powerful?
Physical pleasures are gifts from God. Satan attempts to counterfeit God’s gifts by using them to lead people away from God.
Whenever the Devil can exploit the body’s innate desires, he will take advantage of it because it doubles the pleasure of sin.
An overindulgence of sensual pleasure alters the body’s chemical balance. This “short-circuiting” of the body teaches it to crave certain physical sensations.
Cravings suddenly become carnal obsessions that lead people to activities that gratify the body’s cravings, and these quickly become habits.
Habits soon dominate a person’s life and eventually, a person is enslaved by them.
The medical world will label this as “addiction” but technically, it’s something that occurs not just in the physical realm of the body, but in the spiritual realm as well.
In fact, all addictions start in the heart.
When men pursue sexual gratification as a means to find fulfillment, they wander further away from the only One who can truly satisfy them. Satan knows this and will relentlessly torment a man with sexual temptation.
Sexual temptation is a potent and haunting force that becomes more formidable each time a man gives in to it. The Devil will use the promise of sexual gratification to dominate a man’s life until he is out of control.
Who is powerful enough to fight such an evil force?
Do you know Him?
He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.
