Is love powerful enough to free a man
from the bondage of sexual sin?
Love motivated God to seek that which was lost and save him. He didn’t pursue people because they were worthy of His love, but because His character is the essence of love and He acts accordingly. God is love.
How about you? If you are a child of God, your character should line up with the very essence of your Father’s.
“The love of Christ compels us.”
2 Corinthians 5:14
- Are you motivated by God’s love to see your husband freed from the enemy’s chains?
- Are you motivated to take action to help your husband, or are you stuck in the pit of shame, self-pity and depression?
- Are you motivated to experience more of God’s power and glory?
Without the right motivation you will fight a hopeless battle. Only the love of Christ will provide you with purpose and proper direction.
Although pornography may be a new reality in your life, it is not new to God and He is not at all surprised by it. Nor will He leave you floundering in the turmoil brought on by it. God’s word and Spirit supply you with everything you need to address every situation you face, but you are responsible for taking action.
Here are a few ways that God says to love your spouse:
Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds? Proverbs 24:11-12
“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Galatians 6:1-3
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says, ‘Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.’” Ephesians 5:11-14
“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,‘ you do well…” James 2:8
Love is doing what is best for the object of love, not what is most comfortable or least painful for yourself. In the flesh, this kind of love is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.
